The themes detail departures and goodbyes. The sisters seek love, but not the specific love they've experienced. You can hear them figuring out in the moment who they aspire to be.

"That's a perfect way of putting it, yes," agrees Danielle. "I Quit is essentially a mantra. You have to make an effort in ignoring the criticism and saying, 'I don't give what people think'."

Evolution of Style

That newfound resilience demanded a fresh approach – more unpolished and powerful than any of the music the band had done before.

For Danielle, who co-produced the album, that was founded on the drum sound.

"Drums are such a nuanced thing, and I am so passionate about it," she says.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the subject of our book," quips Alana. "I always say, our albums cannot begin until we find the ideal drum sound."

Anecdotes and Shared Laughter

The band's openness shaped the album's marketing, where the sisters revealed some of their romantic tales.

Someone ended things with Este over a health consideration. Alana shared a story of flying to celebrate New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a high five at midnight.

"During these heartbreaks, you just feel like there's no light," explains Alana. "Therefore to be able to share those stories and hear others tell you more outrageous stories, it's therapeutic."

An Assured Legacy

It's not difficult sense a evolution in the band. These days, Haim are more certain of their standing in the rock pantheon.
